Colon The last portion of the digestive system, also known as the large intestine. It functions to reabsorb fluid and process waste products from the body, which forms the stool. The colon consists of four parts: ascending colon, transverse colon, descending colon and sigmoid colon, with the rectum and anus at the end to store and pass the stool.
